The year 2022 was, to put it mildly, a turbulent year. It was the year of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Of many people who found themselves forced to flee from various countries. The year of sky-high energy prices and exorbitantly expensive groceries. The year of the housing crisis and nitrogen crisis, of dried-up rivers and failed harvests.
But a turbulent year is no reason to sit back and accept defeat. Certainly not for an organisation that has, for two decades, believed and demonstrated that through the deployment of design power, the world can become a better place for all of us: more beautiful, more sustainable, more inclusive and more social. Everything happening in the world is precisely a reason to roll up our sleeves past our elbows and get to work. The only mistake we can make, after all, is to do nothing! The theme of Dutch Design Week 2022: Get Set was therefore a call to everyone and everything, designers, policymakers and citizens, to show engagement and take action. Get Set… We’re on a mission!
