During Dutch Design Week, designers are eager to show their courage, creativity and capacity for change. But are we really as brave as we say we are? When does a designer actually need to be brave – and can you create brave space yourself? Do commissioners in the public sector really want brave designers, or would they rather have compliant ones?

Marjolein, Myrthe and Jaap are conducting research, commissioned by PONT (De Publieke Ontwerppraktijk), into friction and discomfort in public design practices. During this session, you’ll join them in learning and exploration – and may find yourself confronted with your own conformity, or surprised by your own courage.

Myrthe Krepel (Smelt Smelt), Marjolein Vermeulen and Jaap Warmenhoven (De Nacht Club) are social designers who share a fascination with uncomfortable topics, power and social safety in processes of change.
