In this Co/Lab, Sweco invites its own experts to further explore and deepen their work through the lens of the Earth as commissioner. Not just designing for short-term economic efficiency, but embracing long-term regenerative thinking — with care for soil, water, air, biodiversity, and future generations. In collaboration with the selected design studio, a series of co-creation sessions will take place in which Sweco employees from across disciplines contribute their knowledge, questions and ideas.

Fillip Studios selected as design studio

For this fifth Co/Lab, Fillip Studios has been selected as the participating studio. Based in Arnhem, the studio is known for creating interactive installations, exhibitions and experiences that combine art, technology and wonder. With a multidisciplinary team, Fillip Studios works on projects around the globe — from New York to Tokyo — as well as in their home base in the Netherlands, bringing together innovation in technology, science and culture.

In this project, the studio will not only facilitate the co-creation sessions with Sweco employees, but also translate the collected insights into a visually striking, sensory installation for Dutch Design Week 2025 (DDW25). The installation is designed to live on after DDW25, both within Sweco and in other settings. It transforms an abstract idea into a tangible experience — an invitation to rethink how we design, live and act, on behalf of the Earth.

“It’s wonderful to bring our studio mission ‘impact through wonder’ to life through Sweco’s Co/Lab around the theme ‘what if the Earth were our client’.”
Tom Kortbeek Founder Fillip Studios
“As far as we know, the Earth tops the universe when it comes to generating life. But it's stressful for her to keep that position if we continue to disturb the balance. If the Earth is our client, we must relieve the pressure — and help prevent her from burning out and losing her top spot.”
Geert van Bakel Structural Engineer, Sweco Netherlands
